UK-UF: Billy Donovan Quotes

Comments from Florida coach following the loss ...

Florida Head Coach Billy Donovan

On the loss…
"I thought, physically, they gave everything they had. I thought the difference in the game was the free-throw line in the second half and the free-throw line for the game. I think when you look at it, it was 24-13. That was really the difference. I thought we were pretty effective offensively. We did a really good job defensively in the first half. In the second half, they got the ball inside and made some plays. I thought Chuck Hayes played very well in the second half, and I thought Randolph Morris played well. Up front, they caused us some problems. But that was the tale of the game there. The guys made a good comeback to get back into the game there. We had some shots that went down and got us back in it and we missed some shots. But, overall, I thought our guys competed and played hard. We came up a little bit short against a good basketball team."

On Kentucky's Rajon Rondo…
"Obviously, he's got quickness. From a defensive standpoint, he's probably a little bit further along than he is offensively right now. The thing that he did good job, to me, was he got himself to the free-throw line and made free throws. He had been shooting about 48 per cent from the free-throw line, so, we fouled him late. You've got to give the young man credit for someone who was shooting as poorly as he was from the free-throw line. He stepped up and made some really good free throws. He's going to be a very good player. He's a good player right now."

On whether his team let up late in the game…
"I don't think our guys let up. Again, it was the free-throw line. I think if you look down there, they made more free throws than we took. Instead, we took 14 threes in the second half. I think some of those were late and we had to take those to try to get back into the game. I didn't think our guys let up. I thought our guys played hard. I thought they capitalized on some missed opportunities. I thought Chuck Hayes and (Randolph) Morris, up front, did a really good job of setting the stage early there in the second half. I didn't feel like our guys let up. I thought maybe we made some bad plays, but I don't think we let up."

On the officiating…
"I think they did a good job. They officiated the game very well. There's no excuses. Kentucky went down inside there in the second half and we fouled."

On Kentucky's Ravi Moss…
"I think the one thing about him after watching film that I've noticed is he is a guy who steps up and makes big threes. He made a big three in the Kansas game. He made a big three at Louisville. I thought he made a big three against us in the first half and maybe we were up by eight or nine. Throughout his career, it appears he is a very, very timely three-point shooter. He's a guy that's been around for a while and has some experience. He comes off the bench, and maybe he doesn't get the attention of (Patrick) Sparks or (Kelenna) Azubuike or some of the other guys."
