One of the better linemen in the state of Mississippi has narrowed his list to three schools with Kentucky in the mix.
Walls Horn Lake product Jared McGowan (6-4, 295, 5.1) plans to visit Lexington this weekend and has a scholarship offer from the Cats.
"I don't know much about the team at this point, except that they're in the SEC and they've had some pretty good teams lately," McGowan said. "But I like coach (Harold) Jackson a lot, and he tells me I'd really like it up there. They see me coming in and being No. 2 on their depth chart right away. I'm looking forward to seeing what Kentucky is like."
McGowan is also being recruited heavily by Mississippi State and Troy State. The Bulldogs, who currently have 28 commitments, may be in a numbers crunch for scholarships, and Troy State is evaluating him as a defensive lineman. Southern Miss and Memphis have also shown interest. He says he doesn't have a favorite school or position preference at this point.
"Mississippi State is close to home, a real good program, and (Starkville is) a good football town," McGowan said. "Troy State is an up-and-coming program. Kentucky sounds good, too. I really just want to decide after I see all of them. The biggest thing for me is I just want to play."
