Kentucky Sports Report has learned through Scout.com's Kansas site that Kentucky has extended an offer to Gary Johnson, a 6-foot-7 combo forward in the 2007 class from Houston Aldine High School in Texas.

Johnson is among at least four other major colleges trying to position their programs for his services.

“Arizona, Texas, Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina, those are the main schools,” Johnson said to Eric Bossi of Phognet.com, “All of them have offered.”

Although he has earned a reputation as a versatile power player, Johnson has expressed a desire to play on the perimeter. He is certainly not shy inside.  Johnson takes a great deal of pride in playing both forward positions and has made it a priority in recruiting.

“I must be able to play power forward and small forward,” Johnson said to CatTracks at the end of April when asked what he is looking for in a school.

At the Kingwood Tournament in Houston earlier this year, Kentucky Sports Report saw Johnson playing for the Houston Hoops. Johnson exhibited thunderous dunking technique and was a vicious shot blocker for a player his size. He has an NBA body already.

Tune in as Kentucky Sports Report will continue to follow this breaking story.

Scout.com currently ranks Johnson among the top ten power forwards from the 2007 class.
