SACRAMENTO, Calif. - UK shot putter Andy Fryman will compete at the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., June 8-11, as announced Tuesday by the NCAA committee.
The sophomore was a part of the at-large pool in which bids to nationals were given based upon season-best performances and regional performance finishes. Fryman was not originally selected to compete at nationals however, during Tuesday's declarations a scratch in the shot put field allowed him to take his place among 25 of the nation's leading collegiate shot putters.
The Maysville, Ky., native threw a career-best heave of 60-01 ¾ at the Mideast Regional to finish sixth.
Fryman will join senior Jeff Chakouian in the shot put qualifying competition Wednesday at 11 p.m. EDT.
