2003 Update: Ekene Ibekwe

Ekene Ibekwe, a talented 6-9 junior power forward from Carson, has a number of elite high majors showing him interest. Ibekwe tells us that he's still considering all of the schools that are recruiting him...

Ekene Ibekwe, 6-9 JR PF Carson (Calif.) High, is a long and lean post player with a chance to be among the best at his position in the west. Ibekwe has a tendency to fall in love with his jump shot (he's got a decent shot out to three-point range), but he'll need to develop his post game in order to be effective at the high-major level.

We spoke with Ibekwe a few days ago and he told us that he's wide open right now. "I'm interested in USC, North Carolina, Arizona, Kentucky, Kansas and UCLA," Ibekwe said. "'I don't have a leader and I haven't ruled anyone out yet."

Ibekwe will be heading to Germany on March 24th with a U.S. team that will play in the Albert Schweitzer Games. They'll spend two weeks in Germany playing against various European teams. "I'm not sure who else is on the team," Ibekwe said. "I know Brandon Bowman from Westchester is playing, but I don't know who else."

Ibekwe plans on taking the SAT in May and told us he hopes to visit five schools once he has posted a score. He doesn't anticipate any problems qualifying.
