Cats land big man Perry Stevenson

Perry Stevenson, a 6-foot-9 PF prospect from Lafayette, Louisiana, becomes the Wildcats 4th verbal commitment, according to a published report.

After visiting Kentucky for Big Blue Madness, Perry Stevenson committed to the Wildcats, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader in a story published Wednesday evening.

Stevenson, a 6-foot-9 power forward, is a top 60 prospect by Scout.com and the 4-star recruit is rated as the number 16 power forward prospect by Scout. He averaged a triple-double last year in high school, with 13 points per game, 10 rebounds, and 10 blocked shots.

The Cats have now secured the commitment from four prep stars for 2006, as Stevenson joins guards Derrick Jasper, Jodie Meeks, and Michael Porter as verbal commitments. Kentucky currently has two scholarship seniors, Patrick Sparks and Brandon Stockton, who will be exhausting their college eligibility after this season.

An excellent shot-blocker and rebounder, Stevenson carries only 200 pounds on his 6-foot-9 frame, and needs to gain strength, according to comments given to KSR's Steve John last month. "Strength, no doubt about it. I did work on my stength this summer but I'll be working on it a lot more. I noticed how much better I have played as I get stronger, so I know I'll improve as my strength continues to develop. I'll be working on that hard this year."

Stevenson committed to Kentucky over Texas, Texas Tech, LSU, and others. Stay tuned to Kentucky Sports Report for more on this breaking story.
