UK adds a hoops walk-on

Bourbon County all-state guard Preston LeMaster, who averaged 25.2 points per game as a senior, will join the UK squad as a walk-on...

One of the state's highest scoring players during the 2001-02 season will reportedly pass on scholarship offers from several smaller schools in order to walk-on with Kentucky.

Bourbon County guard Preston LeMaster, the son of former Wildcat Jim LeMaster, has accepted an offer from Tubby Smith to join the team.

"I've liked Kentucky for a long, long time," LeMaster said. "I've dreamed about the opportunity to play there. It was too good to pass up."

He chose UK over Miami of Ohio, Northwestern and a handful of OVC schools.

LeMaster was a first-team all-state selection after averaging 25.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists for the Colonels. He posted 28.5 points per game as a junior.

His father played for UK under coach Adolph Rupp from1965-68.
