2003 Profile: Eric Henkel

Eric Henkel, a 6-4 junior combo guard from Montana, didn't get a lot of attention last year. But several high-profile programs in the west are aware of him and showing interest...

Eric Henkel, 6-4 JR PG Missoula (Mont.) Sentinal, told us last week that he's hearing from a number of programs, including Gonzaga, Oregon, Utah and Stanford. He said he doesn't have any leaders at this point.

Henkel told us that he always loved Kentucky growing up. While he said he'd love to play at one of the elite high majors, such as a Kentucky or Duke, he said might feel more comfortable staying in the west if he does not get offers at that level.

"I'm going to look at the coaching staff, how I fit in there and who is at my position," Henkel said. "And I'm going to look at the school -- do I want to spend four years there?" Henkel went on to say, "It would be nice to commit early, but I don't want to rush into anything."

Henkel told us he averaged 23 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds this past season. He said he prefers playing point guard, but also really enjoys playing shooting guard.

He has a GPA of 3.8 and he'll take the SAT next month.
