Sophomore guard Samantha Mahoney (Detroit) leads the Cats in scoring with 11.1 points per game, while sophomore center Sarah Elliott (McKee, Ky.) and junior guard Jenny Pfeiffer (North Vernon, Ind.) follow with 9.8 and 9.6 ppg, respectively. Senior forward/center Jennifer Humphrey is the team's leader on the boards, averaging 7.7 rebounds per game, while sophomore Eleia Roddy (Columbus, Ohio) follows with 6.7 rpg.
The Wildcats are coming off a 66-36 loss to No. 3 LSU last Sunday. Kentucky, which was led by freshman point guard Carly Ormerod's (Louisville, Ky.) team-high 14 points, held the Lady Tigers to their lowest point total of the season.
"We are looking forward to getting back on the court after playing a very good LSU team," UK Coach Mickie DeMoss said. "I think we've learned a lot and have worked hard in practice these past few days. We are looking forward to playing a very athletic team in Tennessee State. They are in a rebuilding situation with a second-year head coach. They are 0-7 but have played on the road the entire season. You certainly don't want to overlook anyone. We anticipate a lot of athleticism tomorrow night."
This is the third meeting between Kentucky and Tennessee State in the history of the two schools. The Wildcats lead the series 2-0. The Cats and Lady Tigers have not met since the 1988 season, a game that Kentucky won 88-70 in Nashville. The Wildcats are 74-16 all-time vs. teams from TSU's Ohio Valley Conference.
The Lady Tigers enter Thursday's contest with a 0-7 record as they are searching for their first win of the season. They are coming off a disappointing 69-65 loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday. Tennessee State has not yet played a regular season home contest. TSU is under the direction of second-year head coach Tracee Jones, who was named as the program's permanent head coach last April.
