GIDEL: Awards Piling Up for Strickland

The honors and accomplishments keep on coming in for Walton (Ga.) HS star Michael Strickland. The three-star wide receiver/safety whom chose the Wildcats in early November over offers from Oregon, Bowling Green and Miami (Oh.), nailed down an impressive First Team All-State in Georgia's second largest class.

Walton (Ga.)'s Michael Strickland, a three-star wide receiver on Scout.com, was recently named First Team All-State by the Atlanta Constitution Journal and the Georgia Sports Writers Association in Class AAAAA. He was named to both teams as an athlete.

He was also recently named, First-Team All Cobb County Team, as a wide receiver and a running back, as well as making the All-Region 6 AAAAA First Team.

The 6-foot-1, 206 pound gunner ended his senior season after garnering over 2,846 all-purpose yards. The University of Kentucky bound receiver caught 78 passes for 1235 yards and 13 TDs, rushed for 701 yards and 9 TDs, and returned kicks 910 yards and 1 TD. He also scored another TD by returning a fumble.

"They really wanna win at Kentucky," Strickland said. "They really support their program and they impressed me with how much they back their team."

Strickland will play in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association's North vs. South all-star game, scheduled for 2 p..m. Thursday at Memorial Stadium in Columbus (Ga.).

He is currently playing basketball for the Raiders.
