The first half was a game of runs, with UK rushing to a double digit lead on the heels of an 11-0 run, followed by an Ole Miss 12-0 run to retake the lead. UK closed the first half on a 12-2 run, with four consecutive possessions resulting in 3-points each--3-point baskets by Alcius, Pfeiffer and Mahoney, and an "old-fashioned" 3-point play from Elliott for UK to take a 43-34 halftime lead.
Ole Miss would cut into the UK lead in the 2nd half, though, and took the lead at 54-53 with almost 12 minutes to play. The lead woudl be short-lived, however, as two consecutive jumpers by Elliott gave UK a 57-56 lead that it would never relinquish.
Kentucky hit 90% from the free throw line (26-29), led by Pfeiffer's 9-9 performance. The 'Cats hit 12 consecutive free throws in the last 1:24 of the game (eight by Pfeiffer) as Ole Miss resorted to fouling late to get the ball back.
Kentucky moves to 14-4 (3-2) with the victory, while Ole Miss falls to 11-7 (1-4). Kentucky returns to action Thursday when it hosts No. 1 Tennessee in Rupp Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be carried live on the Big Blue Sports Network (radio and television).
