2007 PG Jai Lucas discusses his leaders

Kentucky Sports Report recently caught up with the class of 2007's highly regarded point guard Jai Lucas, son of former NBA player John Lucas. Lucas discussed his three favorites with KSR, and is very high on Kentucky's top Cat, Tubby Smith.

Jai Lucas, son of former NBA player and coach John Lucas, is among Kentucky's top targets in the 2007 class. The elder Lucas' skills extended to his older son, John Lucas III, as he lead Oklahoma State to the 2004 final four. His skills have also been passed on to his younger son, Jai.

Jai, a 5-foot-11 point guard, is a four star prospect according to Scout.com. When asked about his strengths as a player, Lucas said, "My strength is running a team. I'm also a good shooter." Lucas led Bellaire High School in Houston TX with 24 points per game, to go with six assists.

Lucas lists Kentucky, Oklahoma State, LSU, Oklahoma, and Connecticut as his leaders right now. Lucas says he'll make his decision after the summer AAU scene. He'll be playing his AAU ball with Houston Hoops. The Houston Hoops team also holds two other players who are being recruited by Tubby Smith and Kentucky. Gary Johnson, a 6-foot-8 manchild, and Isaiah Rusher, a 6-foot-10 athletic power forward. Rusher also doubles as Lucas' teammate at Belaire High.

When asked if he would like to play at the next level with Rusher, Lucas said, "Yes, I would like to play with Isaiah. We are good friends." Rusher is also being recruited by Kentucky, LSU, and Oklahoma St among others.

Lucas has taken two unofficial visits, one to Oklahoma State, and one to LSU. Lucas said he plans to take an official visit to Kentucky and some of the other programs recruiting him. Lucas also commented on a few of the programs recruiting him.

Kentucky: "I really like Tubby Smith. He reminds me a lot of my dad. He's one of the best coaches in college basketball."

Oklahoma State: "I am used to the system. It would be an easy transition. I know the program because my brother played there. And it's the Big 12, that's great basketball."

LSU: "I really liked the atmosphere on campus. LSU is a sleeping giant."

Lucas didn't know where he would be camping this summer. Where ever he goes, you can rest assured college coaches will follow the younger Lucas.
