Michigan PF Not Deciding Soon

Saginaw (Mi.) HS power forward Josh Southern is not into making a rushed decision. That's why he's taking the time to look at all the schools he can.

"I don't plan on deciding anytime soon," Josh Southern said. "I'll probably make it in the middle of my basketball season or later."

Southern's list of suitors reads like a Saturday afternoon top 25 recap. Michigan State, Michigan, Miami (Fla.) and Kentucky are all after the 6-foot-9, 240 pound power forward, with UCLA, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and DePaul in the mix as well.

"It's still the same colleges - there's a bunch of schools still on my list," Southern added, "Just a few have come along of late; Tennessee, Boston College and Ohio State have been coming on strong. They are all good programs. I like Coach (Thad) Matta's program. They are on their way up. They got a real good recruiting class coming in."

Much has been made about Southern's relationship with Kentucky and the associations he has with the current coaching staff.

High school coach Lou Dawkins was once coached by current Kentucky head basketball coach Tubby Smith, while Smith was the head man at Tulsa.

"I just talked to Coach Smith about two weeks ago," Southern said. "You know, they still on my list. Coach Smith, he's a great coach and there program has been great for so many years. That's a plus, too."

Recently Southern was in Lexington. "I went on an unofficial there last - it was a nice place," the soft spoken Southern said. "It's a beautiful campus."

Ultimately Southern will decide on the best fit for him in all capacities. "The environment at the school, the academics, and the coaching staff. A staff that is serious about what they are doing. I would like to be close to the staff and have a good relationship with them."
