Crawford High School in San Diego, California currently holds one of the best players on the west coast. Tyrone Shelley, a 6-foot-6 small forward, is rated among the top 100 prospects in the country according to Scout.com.
The class of 2007 small forward has lived up to his reputation as a scorer this summer. "He's scoring around 32 points per game this summer," said Crawford High Coach Terry Tucker. "He was listed among the top 10 players at the Cactus Classic," said Tucker. Shelley averaged 26 points per game and almost nine rebounds per game in four games for the San Diego Colts, in Tucson.
Shelley's athleticism and length make him an intriguing prospect for schools looking for a wing man. "He's a legit 6-foot-6, and he might be six-foot-seven now," Tucker said. "Schools love his size. He's 215 pounds now, with a college body," Tucker stated. Shelley's size allows him to take the ball to the rim and finish, with contact. "He's always been a scorer, he's averaged around 28 points per game, since he was a freshman," Tucker continued. Early in his junior year at Crawford, Shelley put up 76 points against Burlington Central, a high school team from Canada. "He can score from anywhere," said Tucker.
Shelley will be participating in his high school's camp in the coming weeks. At this time, he hasn't decided whether he'll attend the Nike or Adidas camp. According to Tucker, Shelley's top five consists of UCLA, Kansas, Kentucky, USC, and Arizona, all of which have offered. He's taken unofficial visits to Arizona, UCLA, and Kansas. Shelley said also mentioned that he would like to hear more from North Carolina as well.
Tyrone is rated a four star prospect by scout.com and is the number 21 small forward in the country.
