Tubby Smith and the University of Kentucky have found yet another under the radar prospect. Chris Barnes, a 6-foot-8 240 pound power forward, is a new name on the list of the Wildcats.
"They've been recruiting me for about a month, since the end of the summer (AAU circuit)," said Barnes. So what does Barnes know about the Cats? "I know a lot about them. They have a good coach in Tubby Smith and a good program. They've won a lot of SEC Championships, and made the final four. That's the place people go and made it big in the league (NBA)."
Aside from Kentucky, Barnes lists defending national champion Florida, along with Cincinnati, Wichita St and Oklahoma. "I don't have a leader, they are all even," said Barnes. All five programs have offered as well.
Which ever program lands Barnes will land a low post bull. Barnes is a strong rebounder, and can score with his back to the basket. He uses his body to get position, and is hard to move out of the post. Barnes isn't limited to post play, however. I have worked hardest on my shooting, that's what I want to improve on most," Barnes said.
Barnes had a good summer on the AAU circuit playing for Southeast Elite. He established himself as one of the best rebounders at the Peach Jam, pulling down 15 rebounds against the Friends of Hoop, and pulled down 13 boards in a previous game against the YOMCA team out of Memphis.
Barnes has official visits scheduled for this month, including a visit to Florida on September 7th, and September 27 at Kentucky. He will sit down after his official visits, and make his decision.
Barnes is a three star prospect according to Scout.com.
