Tubby Smith doesn't have to travel far from Lexington to find a solid small forward prospect. 85 miles up the highway, in Elizabethtown, lies 6-foot-5 210 Steffphon Pettigrew.
The 2007 forward has been in constant contact with the Kentucky staff. "Yes, I talk with Kentucky all the time. I talked with Tubby the other day," said Pettigrew. The Wildcats haven't set up a firm date for an in home visit with Steffphon, but one is in the works. "UK is coming sometime this month," Pettigrew stated.
Pettigrew is getting a lot of attention from several mid major division one programs. He's got scholarship offers from Bradley, Morehead, South Alabama and Western Kentucky. What about Kentucky? "Hopefully UK (will offer)," said Pettigrew. Steffphon plans to make a visit to Bradley, but has no other visits planned at this time.
Pettigrew likes to get out in transition, and score. "The strength of my game is on the inside," he said. "I'm working on my ball handling and my shooting for college," continued Steffphon.
The University of Louisville is also recruiting Pettigrew, but for a different sport. "UL is recruiting me for football. I played football last year, but I'm not playing this year," said Pettigrew.
Steffphon says he has no leader at this time. But he offered a couple of insights into what he's looking for with the college he chooses. "Whoever gives me the best offer, and the style of play are important to me," Pettigrew stated. He plans to make a spring decision.
