UK Hoops rolls over Washington State 80-51

LEXINGTON, Ky -- Jennifer Humphrey scored 15 and Samantha Mahoney added 11 as the UK Hoops team rolled over Washington State, 80-51 in the season opener for both squads. All twelve players scored for Kentucky in a game that was never tied, and in which Kentucky never trailed.

No. 15/16 Kentucky dominated the paint and the opening game of the 2006-07 season while routing Washington State 80-51. The 'Cats scored 40 points in the paint to Washington State's 20, and outrebounded WSU 46-34.

Jennifer Humphrey was one of only two Wildcats in double figures, scoring 15 on 7-9 shooting. Samantha Mahoney added 11, with Lydia Watkins and Brittany Edelen coming off the bench to add eight points each. Humphrey led the Wildcats with eight rebounds, and Sarah Elliott had seven.

UK ran out to a quick lead, literally and figuratively, outscoring WSU 12-0 in fast break points. The Cats led WSU 37-19 at the half, and extended the lead to 32 just five minutes into the second half, and coasted the rest of the way. The 'Cats played all twelve players at least nine minutes each, with no player playing more than 26.

The game was the second game of the Women's Sports Foundation Tournament. UK will next face Indiana at 1 p.m. EST in the championship game tomorrow.
