Lentz gives Wildcats Another Commit

Matt Lentz of Greenville (SC) was one of the hardest recruits to get ahold of throughout the recruiting scene this past year. Over the weekend he finally made his decision and he confirmed it with Scout.com today.

Greenville (SC) quaterback/safety Matt Lentz has committed to Kentucky over the weekend after an unofficial visit to the Wildcats.

"I made my commitment to the University of Kentucky over the weekend," Lentz confirmed. "I have been going up there since my sophomore year and I really fell in love with the campus and the school. I have been up there several times, so I kind of know what to expect and I have really hit it off with the coaching staff."

The 6-foot-3, 185 pounder is a record setting quarterback from Greenville (SC) high school. He is a former teammate of University of Kentucky signee Lamarckus Boswell, who was a record setting wide receiver at Greenville this past year and signed with the 'Cats in 2006.

"I really liked Joker Phillips," Lentz added. "We've had a really great relationship since he first started recruiting me."

Lentz has good size for a division one quarterback. His numbers are impressive running the explosive Greenville High offense which has exceled in AAA play over the last few seasons. In 2005, as a junior, Lentz threw for 3,642 yards and 44 touchdowns. This season, he put himself into player of the year contention by throwing for 2,795 passing yards with 34 touchdown passes.

Possessing 4.55 speed, Lentz also rushed for 5 touchdowns and 654 yards. He will participate in the Shrine Bowl, the annual all-star game between North Carolina and South Carolina.

"He's very, very mobile," Greenville coach Jim Sosebee said. "He has very good arm strength and makes good decisions. I think the fact that he plays in the same area as (Clemson commitment Will) Korn has hurt him, because people always compare him to Will."

Rating comparably to former Greenville gunslinger Jordan Sorrells, whom the Wildcats recruited heavily two years ago, Lentz is an accurate thrower who can get outside on the bootleg and 'spin it' on the run. Unlike his former counterpart in Sorrells, however, Lentz possesses an attractive build at 6-foot-3.

"I'm excited to have the decision over with," Lentz added. "I am excited to be a Kentucky Wildcat and I can assure you I will give 100% to my team and my school."

"I work very hard and I am committed to this program," Lentz said. "I am glad to finally be apart of it and am looking forward to getting started."

Lentz committed to the Kentucky Wildcats over an offer from Middle Tenessee State and Nebraska, as well as interest from and South Carolina and Wake Forest.
