Have the Wildcats addressed the needs at each respective position? In part 1 of 5 we break down the offensive backfield.

The need: not critical

Kentucky got one of its three quarterbacks they offered as juniors when South Carolina QB/S Matt Lentz (6-3, 205, 4.55) from Greenville verbally committed in November. He is's #92 prospect and a 2-star, but his speed gives the Wildcats some flexibility when he gets on campus. Some scouts believe their is a legitament chance he could end up at safety, a position Steve Spurrier at South Carolina recruited Lentz for. A top baseball prospect, the gunslinger could walk-on the baseball program, as well.

The Future: Hard to say how comfortable the Wildcats feel at this position, given the uncertainty with Curtis Pulley and the fact outside of the Hoptown athlete, UK will more than likely be faced with having to start a redshirt sophomore with no game experience if Pulley can't win the job. If the 6-foot-4, 195 pound athlete manages to not beat out Fidler or Hartline, the reality is, UK will have to start a redshirt sophomore with zero game experience for 2008.

Running Backs:
The need: critical

2006 signee Moncell Allen (5'8, 220, 4.6) currently trying to enroll from Fork Union Prep, could be the only running back that enrolls in the fall, after Eugene (Ore.) commitment Brandon Jackson admitted to his local paper, the Wildcats have plans to grayshirt him. Both are 3-star prospects according to Jackson (5'10, 185, 4.6), switched his verbal commitment from California to Kentucky in early January and could end up finding his way to Lexington earlier, should a projected qualifier not make it. Jackson's a talented two-way star, so don't be surprised if his best possible scenario to see the field early at UK is at cornerback.

The Future: With Rafael Little graduating next year, a position that looked loaded for the future with the expected arrival of Demetrius Goode, suddenly becomes a question mark. Even if Allen enrolls in the fall, the Wildcats won't necessarily be pleased with the outlook if they don't add a change of pace back with more speed in the next year or so. Losing Goode was a definite back breaker.
