Isiah Martin, a 6-foot-9 210 forward, is a senior at Morgan Park High School. Among Illinois top players in the 2007 class, Martin is looking over several options for his college choice.
Averaging 16 points, nine rebounds, and seven blocks a game, Martin has gained attention from several programs. Although his senior year is halfway over, he hasn't taken any official visits at this time. "I haven't taken any official visits yet. I have been to a few games. I've been to about three Northwestern games. I've also been to a couple of Illinois State games," Martin said.
At this time, Martin is mostly a defender, but he's working on other aspects of his game. "I'm best at playing defense, blocking shots and rebounding. I'm getting better at my low post game and I'm trying to be able to step out and make the midrange jumper too," stated Martin. "I also want to work on my ball handling, my strength and my consistency," Martin continued.
So which schools are recruiting this athletic four man? "Northwestern, UTEP, Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois, Loyola, Illinois State, Central Florida and Southern Methodist," said Martin. So are any Big 10 or SEC schools interested? "I've talked to Illinois a few times. My coaches are good friends with coach Weber," said Isiah.
Martin also has a passing interest in the University of Kentucky. "I want to play at a big time program. I would like to help a team like Kentucky to get back to the top," said Martin. Has Martin heard from Kentucky lately? "Not as of late. It was a lot more between my sophomore and junior year."
Do any other schools standout for Martin? "No, not really. I like Northwestern because I'm big on academics," Martin said. "I really want to major in finance or banking," continued Martin.
Martin doesn't have a timetable for his decision right now. "I just want to take a second and see where everybody is going," said Martin. "I want to see if there are any new opportunities."
