Pettigrew visit was "really good"

The University of Kentucky hosted a trio of visitors on Sunday for their game against Tennessee, but only one was a senior. Steffphon Pettigrew, the state's leading candidate for Mr. Basketball took in the game and met with Coach Smith following the SEC showdown.

"I really liked the way they played and I liked the atmosphere with the fans," Pettigrew said of his visit.

"It went really good. We went in the locker room and they told me that they really wanted me here and that they would find every way possible to get me up there."

Due to prior engagements Pettigrew couldn't stick around long after the game, but the 6-foot-5, 215-pound PF/SF did get to meet the team, see the locker room and meet with Coach Smith.

"The only thing [Coach Smith] told me was that he really wanted me there and he's going to try and get me up there."

Pettigrew, who averages 36 points a game, has slowly seen his recruitment get more hectic. Prior to the season he held a handful of scholarships, now he claims offers from Western Kentucky, Duquesne, UMass, Bradley, Duquesne and Tulane.

Schools like Pittsburgh, Mississippi and Kentucky are also keeping tabs on the Elizabethtown (Ky.) High standout. The Wildcats especially have shown more interest recently and during his unofficial on Sunday, the Cats talked about getting him on campus for a second time.

"We talked about setting up an official visit so I can sit down and talk with them," Pettigrew said. "That's what their assistant coach said. They are going to call me back and give me a certain date so I have a time to go up there."

"I haven't seen the Lodge and everything that they have. Hopefully on my next visit I'll get to see that."

While he plans to take an official visit to Kentucky, he hasn't set an exact date. His only other visits were to Duquesne (official) and to Western Kentucky (unofficial).
