SIGNING DAY: WR/TE Breakdown

Have the Wildcats addressed the needs at each respective position? In part 2 of 5 we break down the receiver and tight end position.

Wide Receiver:
The need: critical

What started out as one of the more deep positions on the football team, blessed with youth and returning experience was suddenly a priority with in-season deflections and uncertainty. UK tried to address the problem by adding the signatures of Anthony Mosley (5'11, 175, 4.38) from Tucker (Ga.) and Kyrus Lanxter (6-2, 175, 4.35) from Alcoa. While Mosley possesses a tremendous amount of speed in the slot, he's still very green in terms of understanding the position and will need time to develop. Lanxter was a must-get for the staff and will need to be ready to step in and play immediately. If anything else, it appears UK has found its vocal leader to replace departing senior WR Keenan Burton. With all that said, UK is hopeful of bringing in 2006 signee LaMarckus Boswell (5'9, 175, 4.4), a record breaking wide receiver who knows how to play the game. Despite all the feel good efforts the staff has made, losing Jackson (Ga.) WR John Keye is a huge loss.

The Future: Next year the Wildcats must replace three scholarship wide receivers in Burton, Logan and Johnson. Burton's production will be hard to duplicate, especially considering the weight he's carried on and off the field for the program. UK never looked at adding a JC WR this past year, but perhaps next recruiting year, they might take a gamble on one or two.

2007 WR Depth Chart: Burton (Rs. SR), Logan (Rs. SR), S. Johnson (SR), Lyons (Rs. JR), Ford (JR), Brown (Rs. JR), D. Jones (JR), Strickland (SO), T. Jones (Rs. FR)

Tight End:
The need: none

UK had flirted with the idea of adding a tight end bringing in Nicolai Schwartkopf from Chamblee (Ga.) and tentatively scheduling a visit with Brandon Lampkin from Tucker (Ga.), but neither worked out. Additionally, the 'Cats offered Kyle Hubbard from Lakewood, Ohio, before he verballed to Pittsburgh.

The Future: The fact the 'Cats only mildly looked into bringing in another TE bodes well for Zipp Duncan and Ross Bogue, who could have possibly seen a position change in there future. After Tamme's departure this upcoming year, UK is going to have to find someone of similar production elsewhere. If Chris Goode is that guy, expect some guys to be moved and more change to come to the position.

2007 TE Depth Chart: Tamme (Rs. SR), Bogue (Rs. SO), Duncan (Rs. SO), Drake (SO), Goode (Rs. FR)
