In-State Battle for PRP DT

Louisville (Ky.) Pleasure Ridge Park defensive tackle Brandon Newman is sporting six offers, including two from in-state Kentucky and Louisville.

"Things are going good," Newman said. "I've got six offers right now. I'm not really thinking about any other schools than the ones that have offered me. I'm only interested in the schools that are interested in me."

Tennessee, Alabama and Michigan have started picking up their interest in the 6-foot-0, 290 pound all-state selection. Cincinnati, Louisville, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Stanford and Ole Miss have offered scholarships.

"I don't have a top list or anything," Newman said. "I really like them all the same right now. My coaches are telling me to not go anywhere this summer and I'm thinking about it."

Newman is being most heavily pursued by the in-state Bluegrass U's.

"I really Kentucky," Newman said. "They are always gonna be up there with me. I know the players really well and I have a good relationship with Joker Phillips."

"They were my first offer and you always remember your first," Newman added. "I also have a good relationship with Corey Peters, he's pretty much my best friend. He has helped me with the recruiting process and with school. He's giving me good advice about everything and being able to go there and play the same position as him would be a great opportunity."

The Cardinals and the new coaching staff from the University of Louisville were not the first offer, but they have recently picked it up in their pursuit of the talented defensive lineman.

"I really like Coach Kragthorpe," Newman said. "He reminds me alot of Coach (Rich) Brooks in that he is really down to earth and he's very personable. He tells you like it is and doesn't try to sugar coat things or make things seem like they aren't."

Notre Dame is a school many outsiders felt would make a significant push for an early commitment with Newman. An academia in his own right, Newman and Notre Dame presumably are a perfect fit on paper. The Pleasure Ridge Park standout admitted that he's been impressed with Notre Dame.

"Notre Dame is gonna be Notre Dame," Newman said. "You pretty much know what you're gonna get. Corey (Peters) pretty much told me that I was gonna like Notre Dame and I did. South Bend is a special place."
