Texas, Kentucky recruiting 09 Texas Wing hard

The month of April was a busy one for Shawn Williams. Three of the four weekends Williams hit the road to play in AAU tournaments with Texas Select and he caught the eye of some of the best coaches in college basketball.

Although just a sophomore, Shawn Williams is already grabbing the attention of high-majors coaches. To date he has scholarship offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Kentucky, Illinois and Louisville.

While there's sure to be plenty more offers coming his way, Williams is starting to develop a solid group of schools that he has mutual interest in. The Wildcats and Longhorns are certainly among that group.

"[Schools] are coming hard especially Kentucky and Texas and the other ones I named," Williams said. "The ones that have offered me are coming after me hard."

The Wildcats have shown a high amount of interest lately, due to Billy Gillispie's switch from Texas A&M to Kentucky. Recently Gillispie made a trip to Duncanville (TX) High to check in on the 6-foot-6, 185-pound wing.

"I've talked to coach Gillispie and he said he likes the toughness that I showed when I went down with an injury."

"I love Coach Gillispie. That's definitely a school that I'm interested in. Last week Coach Gillispie came by the school. He said he was going to recruit me personally."

Kentucky isn't the only school that has picked up the pace on Williams. UCLA has shown a considerable amount of interest lately and the last school to send an offer his way, Louisville, visited him as well.

"The past couple of weeks Louisville has gotten in. Coach Pitino's son came to our school last week. Then he came to see me play this weekend and offered me a scholarship. They are real interested."

Texas is another school making an impact on Williams. The four-star recruit hasn't set up any unofficial visits yet, but he indicated that the Longhorns and Wildcats have been working him hard for one.

"I haven't discussed it with my family yet. But I'm sure we are going to take some, we just want to make sure everything is right. I think Texas is trying to get me to take a visit there and I know Kentucky is."

Williams, who has family living in Louisville, already knows what he's looking for in a school. While distance won't be a factor, style of play will play a major role.

"I'm just looking for the best situation for me. It doesn't matter where it's at. [I want to go] somewhere I can play and where I can win. Style wise I like the up and down style of play."

After playing in AAU events the past two weekends Williams will hit the road again, but this time for San Francisco to participate in the adidas Nation camp. Following that workout, Williams will go to NBPA Camp in June and will participate in the adidas Take 5ive event during the open period in July.
