5-Star PF Has Eye on 'Cats

Oak Hill Academy has been a powerhouse of a program for years. Coach Steve Smith has continually attracted some of the best players in the country each year.

2008 is no different, with rising seniors Trey Thompkins and Brandon Jennings headlining a talented group that is expected to be one of the most exciting programs in the country.

The 6-foot-8, 220 pound power forward, Thompkins, is being recruited by every top program in the country and is looking to making a decision at the end of the summer.

"My top schools are Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida State, UCLA, Wake Forest, North Caorlina, LSU," Thompkins said. "Most of the schools have offered. I grew up rooting for North Carolina, but I root for Florida in football."

The Lithonia (Ga.) native has always been a fan of the Southeastern Conference and although the Wildcats haven't offered, yet, Thompkins says he's keeping a close eye on the Wildcats now that teammate Alex Legion has signed.

"I'm interested in Kentucky," Thompkins said. "Coach Gillispie told me that they want to have a 3 guard, 2 big offense and that's what I played in as a freshmen and I really liked it. I think that, that type of offense can really showcase my skills and my capabilities."

Legion, who has signed his letter of intent and will enroll in the summer at UK and Jennings, who currently lists Kentucky in his top three with Arizona and Connecticut, could play a roll, as well.

"Having Alex there would be nice," Thompkins said. "It's always nice to go somewhere where you know someone."

The 6-foot-8, 220 pounder is a physical player on the inside and can rebounder with the best of them. His ability to do-it-all, however, has made him the 5th best power forward and a five star by Scout.com.

"I try to play outside and inside," Thompkins said. "I like to mix it up. I like to be a versatile power forward. One that plays with his back to the basket and can rebound and go coast to coast."

As far as schools are concerned, Thompkins believes he'll be able to trim his list in the near future.

"I'm looking for the complete package," Thompkins said about his list. "I want a school that will show my versality as a player and bring out the best in me."

As far as a decision is concerned?

"Probably at the end of the summer," Thompkins said of his decision, "after I take some unofficial visits."
