Kentucky Eyes Illinois QB

Tuscola (Ill.) quarterback John Wienke was one of the first quarterbacks to be offered by the UK coaching staff for 2008.

"Things are starting to pick up, I got a new offer from New Mexico today, so I have eight offers now," John Wienke said. "Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico are my newest offers."

Kentucky, Ball State, Miami (OH), Northern Illinois and Western Michigan have also offered the 6-foot-5, 215 pounder to date. In 14 games as a junior, Wienke threw for 3,200 yards and 33 touchdowns.

"I'm not really looking for a particular offense, but I'd like to throw the ball, or at least be 50-50," Wienke said. "I'd like to start narrowing down my list here in the next three weeks and gear towards making a commitment, soon."

The Wildcats were the first school to offer Wienke a scholarship and has continued to express serious interest in the Tuscola (Ill.) gunslinger.

"My Dad and I really like Kentucky," Wienke said. "It's a program that we've watched alot growing up. We've always liked there program there. Although I live in Big Ten country, I know all about the SEC. It's one of the toughest conferences in the country, year in and year out."
