Golden looks more like a college sophomore than he does a high school sophomore. He is a solid 6-foot-2 and spreads 190 lbs across a well-defined physique. He is lighting quick on the court and looks 3-4 years older than his age. He is not quite 16.
Golden has been offered a scholarship by the University of Kentucky, and he says he likes the school a lot. "I played in their Blue Chip Basketball Camp recently and got to play pickup with their players. I was ‘rushin', my adrenaline was pumping playing with guys like Jodie Meeks and Patrick Patterson. It was a great visit. I am hoping to visit again sometime."
After the Golden visit, rumors swirled that he would commit to the Cats early, but Trae said he is not so sure, "Coach Gillispie is trying to get me to commit early, but I don't know about that. I am thinking about it. I like a few schools so I don't really want to rush it."
"I like UCLA a lot," said Golden, "North Carolina has called as well as Louisville. Georgia Tech is calling me. So is Georgetown and Tennessee. And I have liked Georgia for some time as well. But I would say Kentucky is definitely in my top five."
Golden says he wants to take some time and talk with his family before he decides his next course of action, "Only God knows what will happen next," Golden said, "I could commit somewhere tomorrow, or maybe wait until after my junior season. I am not going to think about it until the summer is over."
Golden said the new practice facility at Kentucky blew him away, "That place was incredible," Golden said, "I thought it was the gym where the team played when I saw it. And the Wildcat Lodge was really impressive. Really, everything there was state of the art."
1. Trae grew up an Ohio State fan. Why? "My dad went there and he watched all the games on television," Trae said. "Oh yeah," he added, "I forgot. They're talking to me too."
2. Golden says the player he admires most is Kobe Bryant. "He can do anything. I find inspiration in him."
3. Golden says he has grown and in and gained some weight this summer. "I am 6-foot-2 right now and I weigh about 190 lbs.
4. Trae wears a size 15 shoe.
