The Wildcats have been able to get its young talent on the field early at the linebacker position of late. From Micah Johnson to Sam Maxwell, the future looks bright for the linebacking corps at UK.
One particular player that the Wildcats have sought to continue on its recent trend of impact linebackers is DeAndre Jones, one of the few prospects that hold early offers from the UK coaching staff.
"I really like Kentucky, alot," Jones said. "It's close to home, me being in Memphis and so my family would be able to see me play. I like the guy that is recruiting me, Coach (David) Lockwood. He's very easy to talk to."
Coach Lockwood, the new defensive backs coach at Kentucky, has made it apparent that the direction of the program is headed upwards. Something that the 6-foot, 215 pounder believes as well.
"I get stuff from them all the time, they were at one time recruiting me harder than anyone else," Jones said. "They've calmed down a little of late, but they tell me all the time that they think they are going to be competing for championships here soon."
"They are a program on the rise," Jones said. "They are going to be really good in the future, and I would like to be a part of that."
In addition to the Wildcats, Jones lists offers from Indiana, Michigan State, Stanford and Ole Miss. "Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech are recruiting me really hard, too."
A superb student, Jones lists a 3.5 GPA.
