WALKER: Patterson remains the key for UK

For Kentucky to become a better team, everybody has to realize what his role is on this team and what he can do to give this team the best chance to win. I think that is getting the ball to Patrick Patterson as often as you possibly can.

I know some of the older guys might have another agenda in terms of trying to go out with a bang — and they have earned that right to a certain extent — but this wasn't scripted the way that anybody envisioned, so you have to go with what you have.

I do think that getting the ball to Patterson a lot is the way to go. He is a proven scorer. He can get opposing teams in foul trouble. He is a good foul shooter. He works hard. He has a lot going for him.

Then guys have to realize Kentucky doesn't have the depth and talent it has had in previous years. They have to play within the game plan and buy into what coach Gillispie is trying to get them to do.

I can understand from the players' perspective that is hard to do. You are practicing hard every day, but you are getting beat up in games. You are not getting any wins. It is hard to keep faith and believing in something if you are not getting the results.

It's going to be a struggle for the rest of the year and I think we all just have to accept that. Hopefully the players now understand what they are up against and we will see them play even harder and better and doing the things Billy Gillispie tells them because that is what it will take for this team to stay competitive.
