Jan Pfeffer of Cat Trackers, an Ohio-based group that loves following UK football and basketball, wrote her own version of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" in October.
"I still think it can come true, but don't hold me to that because I still believe in Santa," Pfeffer said.
Me, too. Still, I thought her optimism and creativity were both worth sharing at his special time of year.
Twas the night of the game — we rode the bus with Marty
The Wildcats were playing — it was time to party.
Our presents were wrapped and our shopping done
We're gonna watch our Cats and have some fun.
We strutted to our seats so we could yell real loud
We wear blue and white and we're Kentucky proud
A standing ovation greeted the Cats and Billy Clyde
As we sang the national anthem — we were bursting with pride.
When out of the locker room there arose such a clatter,
Billy sprang to his feet to see what was the matter.
Jasper and Patterson raced down the floor
They were ready to rebound and ready to score.
Then what to Billy's eager eyes should appear?
Bradley and Crawford having a great senior year.
Meeks knocking down the "three",
Stevenson blocking shots brought a smile from Billy G.
Stay on your toes — keep your head in the game!
Billy shouted and paced as he called them by name.
On Harris, on Stewart, on Coury and Carter,
On Williams, on Jasper, on Krebs and Porter.
Then we hear the pawing and clawing and the Wildcat roar,
The crowd began to chant — we're going to the Final Four.
We had visions of victories — over our usual quota.
Oh yes! We wish a Merry Christmas to the folks in Minnesota.
Billy's clothes were all wrinkled — his forehead was wet,
You'd thought he played as he was covered in sweat.
But his eyes how they twinkled — his dimples how merry,
His cheeks were like roses — his mouth like a cherry.
He sprang to his feet and waved to the fans,
The fight song was played by the UK Pep Band.
He shook his team's hands and said a job "well done,"
It's "Billy Clyde Time" — a new era has begun.
Coach G began to sing — "He knew he belonged,"
"The sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home."
Those were his last words as he swaggered out of sight,
Merry Christmas y'all — we had a great night!
