Randall Cobb set to sign on Wednesday

Phil Fulmer and the Tennessee Vols made a late run at Alcoa (TN) High's Randall Cobb, offering him a scholarship. Cobb had a decision to make, stick with his commitment to Rich Brooks and the rising program at Kentucky, or stay home and play for perennial national power UT. Cobb discusses his future with KSR's Chris Layton.

Randall Cobb, a defensive back from Alcoa High School, is going to be great asset for Coach Rich Brooks and his staff.

When an offer from Phil Fulmer and the Tennessee Vols was presented to Alcoa High School standout many Kentucky fans were worried. However, today Randall Cobb helped some Big Blue fans rest assured he was a solid commitment to Kentucky.

"I actually cancelled my visit the Tuesday before." Cobb said of his potential visit to Tennessee.

Cobb explained the cancellation to the Tennessee coaches because, "Things were good at Kentucky. I just felt more comfortable there (Kentucky)."

Randall is very excited about being a part of the Kentucky program and the current coaching staff. "Coach Phillips is a great coach. He has a great personality. I really loved being around him while I was up there. Coach Brooks is also an excellent head coach. And I just can't wait to be up there"

We spoke of what his plans were for signing day.

"I think Coach Sanders is going to come. I'm not quite sure yet." Randall can expect a big celebration from his friends and family on February 6th. He plans to sign at 1:00 p.m. on National Signing Day in his school's auditorium with family and friends present.

How did rejoining former teammate Kyrus Lanxter help in the commitment to Kentucky?

"It was a big factor at first. I just connected with everybody up there so much." Cobb is very excited about his future teammates and all the friendships he has already made.

Randall Cobb is ready to commit and get ready for Lexington. When asked today if he would like to be able to sign tomorrow he said, "I wish I really could."

"I really have so many friendships at the Kentucky football games and so many good connections with those guys and the coaches. I just want to get there."

Cobb is a very hardworking, intelligent, and polite young man who will hopefully be able to help Kentucky out in the future. For many Kentucky fans the addition to Cobb is a great steal not only because he is a solid prospect, but Kentucky was able to get a quality player out of Tennessee's backyard.
