Walker: Cats CAN win at Vanderbilt

The Kentucky Wildcats are rolling, they are the winners of five straight games, and have won six of their last eight games. Among the list of victims you will find the Vanderbilt Commodores, the team that Kentucky defeated in its SEC debut in early January. Former Kentucky All American Kenny Walker gives his opinion on the outcome of UK-Vandy II.

Kentucky is rolling into Vanderbilt with a five-game win streak and that's why Kentucky can win Tuesday's game. The Cats now know they can win and they believe they can win.

The win over Vanderbilt in Rupp Arena last month was so important from a mental standpoint. But you can't rely on that. They have to do what they have the last couple of weeks and just find a way to gut out a needed road win. It will be tough, and every SEC game has been.

The Wildcats have to try and make the game ugly, and not worry what anyone thinks. There's nothing wrong with winning ugly when you don't have the talent to match up. When you just look at pure talent, Vanderbilt has more talent from top to bottom and definitely in the starting five.

When it comes to grit and determination, Kentucky has that right now. If they can make the game ugly, I think they can win.

To make the NCAA Tournament, it would certainly help to win this game. If you go on the road and beat Vanderbilt or Tennessee, that would almost solidify UK's chances of making the NCAA Tournament, especially if you can finish second in the SEC East and win a couple of games in the (SEC) tournament to get to 19 wins.

I think Kentucky with 18 wins, I don't know if that will cut it with the NCAA committee. But I think 19 wins and I think that is a pretty good shot with name Kentucky and the way they have redeemed themselves.

I am picking the Cats to win. I like the way they are playing. I think they are going to find a way to win. Maybe if it is not at Vanderbilt, it will be at Tennessee. But I like their chances more at Vandy, because Tennessee is dynamite team. Vanderbilt is not playing as well as it was earlier, so I think this is the best opportunity to go down there and get a win.
