The state of California has been good to UK over the years, with players such as Tayshaun Prince and Chuck Hayes. Now it seems the Wildcats have another target on the left coast. Rising senior, Darius Morris is hearing from the Kentucky coaching staff.
Morris, of the Windward School in Los Angeles (Ca.), is the 10th rated point guard in the 2009 class.
"He's got a knack for the game," said Miguel Villegas, head coach of the Windward School. "He is a point guard who can score inside or out," said Villegas.
"He can take the jumper out to the three point line and hit it consistently. He's a fierce competitor," said Villegas. "He's a long player that can defend well."
"He just needs to clean up his game a little bit overall," said Villegas. "He can always become a better shooter and better without the ball, but there aren't too many flaws in his game," said Villegas. "He's just trying to get better."
Morris averaged 22 points, six rebounds, eight assists and three steals a game for Windward, while leading them to a 24-5 record. "We made the quarterfinals and lost in overtime," said Villegas.
At this point, Darius hasn't taken any unofficial visits. And he's wide open to any schools that approach him.
"Right now he's open. He hasn't really said if he's going to make an early commitment," Villegas said.
"Kentucky's recruiting him. Texas and Michigan are recruiting him hard," said Villegas. "Washington and Washington State have offered. He's getting interested from California, Tennessee and Stanford," he continued.
"I don't think Kentucky has offered him yet, but they are very interested," said Villegas. "Tracy Webster has been in contact."
Morris plays AAU with Belmont Shore, which is also the previous AAU program of commitment Michael Avery.
