Texas Athlete Receiving Wildcat Interest

Upgrading and adding athleticism is always something on the minds of Southeastern Conference coaches. An improving program such as Kentucky is always working to add that much needed athleticism that certain players provide. Texas athlete Joe Mitchell is one of those players.

Joe Mitchell, of Morton Ranch High in Katy (Tx.), is among the best athletes that Kentucky is recruiting at this time. The 6-foot-3 215 pound Mitchell runs the 40 in 4.5 seconds. Mitchell also benches 275 pounds and squats 440 pounds. If that's not enough, Mitchell also possesses a 38 inch verticle. His all-around athleticism allows him to project to several positions at the next level, although he plays quarterback and free safety for his high school. "Schools are mainly recruiting me as a free safety," said Mitchell.

And which schools are recruiting Mitchell at this time? "I'm hearing from UTEP, Tulane, Nebraska, New Mexico, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Utah and Oklahoma State," said Mitchell. "If I had to name a top five, I'd say Oklahoma State, Utah, Tulane, Kentucky and UTEP in no order," he continued.

Although Mitchell is mostly being recruited as a safety, his focus is on the offensive side of the ball as his high school season begins. "I want to work on my quarterback skills. I want to improve my throwing and accuracy. It's not horrible, but it's not the best it could be," said Mitchell. "I just have fun with (football). I'm not uptight about it. Stressing will make you play worse," said Mitchell.

Mitchell hasn't taken any unofficial visits at this time, but he does plan to make a couple before the end of the summer. "I'm planning on visiting Tulane and Oklahoma State, since they are closer," said Mitchell. "I'm planning on making (my decision) close to the end of football season," Mitchell said.
