Newtons eager to see UK fans

Morgan Newton and his family will in attendance for the the Kentucky-Western Kentucky matchup this weekend at Commonwealth Stadium. Kentucky Sports Report's Larry Vaught spoke to Morgan's father, John Newton about the coming visit, and about his son's status as a Kentucky recruit.

It's going to be more of a business trip than pleasure trip for Morgan Newton and his family when they come to Lexington Saturday to watch Kentucky play Western Kentucky.

"It's the first time we have been to Kentucky. We were at Louisville for the game there, but we want to come to a home game," said John Newton, Morgan's father.

The five-star quarterback from Indiana has over 1,200 yards of total offense in four games this year, including over 500 rushing. He recently broke the school single-game total offense record and went over 200 yards rushing in one game as well.

"We are five games into the season and all is going well," John Newton said. "We are ranked No. 1 nationally in one poll, but the rankings can vary.

"Morgan has played well. When he wants to win, that is when he turns it up like he did when he rushed for over 200 yards. He's also closing in on several other school records that have been here for 30 years."

Since Morgan Newton has verbally committed to UK, other schools have quit calling even though some schools continue to send mail in hopes he might change his mind.

"But we are solid with Kentucky," John Newton said.

The Newtons are looking forward to the Commonwealth Stadium atmosphere.

"We've only been to the stadium one time for a game and the crowd was crazy then," John Newton said. "That's what we are looking for this weekend. One reason Kentucky was so attractive to us was the crowds that show up win or lose. It's kind of a hidden secret that Kentucky fans are so excited and passionate about football. We can't wait to be in that atmosphere."
