Finch Updates His Recruiting

For Deuce Finch the recruiting trail is taking a backseat in hopes of fulfilling a goal of winning a state championship his senior season. We spoke with the Louisville St. Xavier running back to get the latest on his thoughts on the schools he's looking at.

"I'm sorry for not getting back with you sooner," Rolandan Finch (better known as Deuce) said by phone on Monday night. "I've really been putting recruiting on the back burner until we get done with our season. I want to make it to the championship game and win a state title and that right now is more important than the recruiting process."

So far things look to be right on track as St. Xavier will finish the season Saturday against Covington Catholic on the road.

"We're 8-0 right now and things are going well. We're the number one seed in the region and I'm healthy and focused on winning a championship."

A few weeks ago Finch did take his first official visit with Kentucky and came away very impressed with what the Wildcats had to offer.

"I had a great visit at Kentucky. Matt Smith was my host and he showed me around introducing me to several of the players on the team. We went out to a movie and I got to watch Kentucky play Arkansas and then hangout with several of the members of the team."

While Deuce is focused on the task at hand, he did feel Kentucky showed him what he was looking for.

"I got to spend a lot of time with the coaching staff and they told me and showed me why Kentucky would be the best place for me. I got my first in depth look at the educational programs I have interest in and was very impressed. The education looks good from all aspects I saw on my visit."

While his visit to Lexington went well it wasn't enough to make Finch pull the trigger.

"I've still got plans on taking a few visits. Right now I'm planning on visiting Illinois for an official visit and then I'll look at a few more schools like Northwestern and Boston College as well. But I really won't know until after our season ends on when or where I'll visit."

We'll try and check out Deuce in action on Saturday afternoon when he visits Covington Catholic for St. Xavier's final regular season game.
