Kentucky Signing Day Preview

An unofficial national holiday is upon us. It's the eve of National Signing Day for college football. The coverage of national signing day will be immense as usual. The Kentucky Sports Report will be no different, providing wall-to-wall coverage.

Poised to bring in arguably the best football class in its history, Kentucky is expected to sign at least 26 players tomorrow. And at least 27 total new players will be added to next season's roster with one junior college player already on campus.

Currently headlining Kentucky's class are quarterbacks Morgan Newton and Ryan Mossakowski, defensive tackle Donte Rumph, center Sam Simpson, tight end Terrell Mitchell and linebacker Qua Huzzie. But the class doesn't stop there. Kentucky has an additional ten three-star prospects coming in and several other quality athletes at other positions.

Kentucky is still in the running for a couple of other highly rated prospects, such as Georgia safety Darren Myles, who visited Lexington this weekend. Myles is thought to be a lean towards Alabama, LSU or Tennessee, but Kentucky did receive his final visit.

The Wildcats are among the two finalists for Harbor College (Ca.) defensive end DeQuin Evans. Evans will choose between Kentucky and Louisville tomorrow morning. Either way, Evans will play his college ball in the Bluegrass State.

Defensive tackle Darrius McMullin is still mulling over his options. McMullin has received interest from several SEC programs, but most believe his finalists are Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Darrius was previously committed to the Commodores, but has only taken one known visit, Kentucky.

One prospect that hasn't been talked about much in the Wildcat forums is middle linebacker Harris Gaston of Bessemer Academy (Al.). Gaston was previously committed to Auburn, but decided to check his options. Gaston visited Mississippi State and Kentucky and will decide between the Tigers, Bulldogs and Wildcats on signing day.

As in the past, most believe there will be some signing day surprises for Kentucky.
