Gillispie comments on rumored meeting

Embattled Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie commented on the meeting that was rumored to have taken place this weekend with UK President Lee Todd and Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart during his pre-Creighton press conference on Sunday.

Kentucky's Billy Gillispie has been the subject of rumors over the course of the weekend that he, UK President Lee Todd and Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart had met to discuss his future at Kentucky.

When asked about the rumors of the meeting Gillispie denied that a meeting with the president and AD had taken place discussing his future.

Gillispie said, "I meet with Mitch Barnhart and Dr. Todd regularly, but we did not meet about the future. We have been trying to recruit and coach, and that is our main focus ..."

Gillispie discussed what he has been doing while all the rumors swirled during this weekend's Sweet Sixteen of his impending demise at Kentucky.

"All you can do is work, and that is all I have ever done and that is all I will ever do. Our guys are having fun and I'm having fun. They are determined to play and we are going to go after it to see what we can do."

Gillispie's statements seemed to indicate a philosophy of worrying about those things he can contol, and focusing on those things. "I worry about the things I can control, and what we can control is how we practice, prepare and play. I love it here, I like our guys, and I'm really excited about our guys coming in and coming back."

Todd and Barhnhart have maintained that they will make an evaluation of Gillispie following the season, just as they do with all UK coaches.

Gillispie appears to be recruiting like a coach who plans on being at Kentucky next season. Last week he took a commitment from juco combo guard Konner Tucker, a freshman who will have three years to play. Gillispie is also heavily recruiting Alabama's Eric Bledsoe, one of the top point guards remaining on the board not named John Wall. Bledsoe's visit for this weekend had to be rescheduled due to some scheduling conflict, according to KSR's Brian Eldridge, who has been in contact with Bledsoe.
