Irving Will Decide This Fall

Kyrie Irving is steadily climbing the charts after his performance this past month. Although his N.J. Roadrunners suffered an early defeat in last month's Pitt Jam Fest, it was Irving who continued to impress scouts with his game.

The 6'1" 170 pound point guard continues to watch his stock rise and has a lengthy list of suitors to choose from. "My list is Georgia Tech, Duke, Seton Hall, Maryland, Kentucky, Indiana, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, and there's another one but I can't think of it right now."

Irving is currently ranked as the 8th best junior in the country according to Scout.com. While he is known for his ability to run a team with his clever passing skills and penetration, Kyrie can also fill it up himself. "I'm kinda like a Chris Paul with maybe a little Ray Allen before he was with the Celtics, when he was more of a scorer. I have a scorer's mentality about me when I need to."

Irving was being recruited by John Calipari when he was at Memphis and although Coach Cal is now the head man at Kentucky, he wasted no time recruiting Kyrie to Lexington. "I talk with Coach Cal, Coach Orlando, and Coach Strickland. I liked Billy Gillispie when he was there he was a good coach. I like Jodie Meeks too. I hear it is basketball country over there and they treat their players like idols."

Irving plans to go through the entire recruiting process and make a decision before his senior season. He says he's just taking his time and looking for the right fit.

"It will come down to the coaching, how comfortable I feel there, and it has to be a school that puts academics first. Also the social atmosphere, just to find the place that feels right when I visit."

After talking with Irving, he told me a little something about himself that some people may not know: "Many people don't know that I have dual citizenship for Australia. I was born in Australia when my Dad was overseas playing basketball professionally."

Kyrie Irving is a 5 star point guard in the class of 2010. Scout.com's Evan Daniels recently had this to say about Irving after Pitt Jam Fest: "He's got elite speed, is a solid athlete and has a strong handle. His body control is terrific and he has a knack for getting through tight spaces with the basketball."
