June Magazine Preview: Morgan Newton

The following is a small excerpt from a feature article in Kentucky Sports Report's June issue. The full article appears in the magazine and will be on newsstands in mid-June. Kentucky coach Rich Brooks won't rule out the possibility that Newton could work his way into the lineup.

"I pride myself on being able to do a lot of things. In high school I was able to run and be a big part of the running game. At Kentucky, I think they will have some running backs that can do that," Newton said. "I will be able to focus more on getting the ball to players who can do things with it. If it boils down to me having to do something with it, then I can as well. I definitely want to be the quarterback who throws it, but I can run, too.

"I did do a lot of running in high school, but I did a lot of throwing as well. Being able to do both and being versatile is one of those things that helped the team and something I had to do and did. I tried to honor that role as much as I could."

Mike Hartline returns as Kentucky's starting quarterback. Randall Cobb played there, and started games, last year and spent time at receiver and quarterback both this spring. Yet Kentucky coach Rich Brooks won't rule out the possibility that Newton could work his way into the lineup.
