"It's kind of amazing how things have turned around, isn't it," Brooks said. "The response to the Maker's Mark bottles was overwhelming. It was more because of what my players have done than what I have done, and I told them that. But it was still a bit overwhelming."
Tom Gregory flew to Lexington from Florida to get Brooks' autograph on the bottle. Caitlin Sullivan and Mike Himmer drove from Maryland for the same reason. Other fans had constructed specially built carrying cases, all to get their hand-numbered bottles that were sold only in Kentucky signed.
