June Magazine Preview: Rich Brooks

The following is a small excerpt from a feature article in Kentucky Sports Report's June issue. The full article appears in the magazine and will be on newsstands in mid-June. Tom Gregory flew to Lexington from Florida to get Brooks' autograph on the bottle.

Some fans lined up overnight, much like die-hard UK basketball fans do annually for Midnight Madness. But this was for a football coach who now even admits in his new book that he wondered if he might be about to lose his job back in 2006.

"It's kind of amazing how things have turned around, isn't it," Brooks said. "The response to the Maker's Mark bottles was overwhelming. It was more because of what my players have done than what I have done, and I told them that. But it was still a bit overwhelming."

Tom Gregory flew to Lexington from Florida to get Brooks' autograph on the bottle. Caitlin Sullivan and Mike Himmer drove from Maryland for the same reason. Other fans had constructed specially built carrying cases, all to get their hand-numbered bottles that were sold only in Kentucky signed.
