His former teammate, E.J. Fields, just finished his freshman year at Kentucky and Weaver is already talking to him about UK since getting a scholarship offer from the Cats to go with ones he has from Louisville, Purdue and Ball State.
"E.J. has told me has much he likes Kentucky and how comfortable he is there," said the 5-11, 200-pound Weaver. "It has been good for him and since he was my teammate, I trust what he tells me. That could make a big impact on me."
Weaver could be a running back, strong safety or cornerback in college because of his size and speed. He prefers offense, but also wants to have the quickest chance to play.
"Schools like me because of my size and speed. I can run over people or around them," Weaver said. "I want to go to a school where I feel comfortable and like all the coaches. You have to be comfortable if you are going to make it.
"If I get my choice, I will be a running back. I do like to hit people, too, but offense is where I would prefer to start out. But if defense is better for me and I would get to play more there, that would be fine. Schools usually let you start at a spot you want, but I just want to play." Weaver went to UK's Junior Day in the spring and thinks the program is only going to get better in the future.
"They have a lot of good young players. It's definitely a program on the rise," he said. "I could see myself one day fitting in well there maybe.
"I'm going to visit schools I am most interested in this summer. Right now I am just focusing on school and trying to get my grades up to make sure I will be eligible."
