Things are starting to happen pretty fast for Damien Leonard. A 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Greenville (S.C.) J.L. Mann, Leonard is yet to begin his junior year but he's already started to gather scholarship offers.
Playing this summer with Matt Ramker's Florida Rams program, Leonard has only played in front of more coaches. It's an experience that he's quite comfortable with.
"Last year I got a little bit of experience with this," said Leonard. "It's certainly better than playing with no college coaches. You don't want to mess up, though."
A slender, long armed wing who is very comfortable letting shots fly from deep, Leonard is looking to show that he's improved his game off the dribble. Playing with a new team, there could be some hiccups but he says it's been smooth sailing to this point.
"It's been good," said Leonard. "I've had a chance to get real comfortable now that I've played a few games and tournaments with them."
"When I'm not shooting I pass it, drive and do other stuff. I'm not just one dimensional."
Already, Leonard has drawn some high major offers and more are surely on the way.
As for John Calipari and Kentucky, Leonard says that they are just continuing what they started months ago in terms of his recruitment.
"They were recruiting me at Memphis and they've just gone from there," Leonard told Kentucky Sports Report. "I like them a lot."
For now, Leonard is just anxious to get back out for the second part of the July evaluation period. He's got plenty of time to worry about his recruitment down the road.
"I'm going to take my time with it," finished Leonard. "There's no rush on it."
