Honeymoon over for Pelphry at Arkansas

Apparently John Pelphrey's honeymoon is over in Arkansas in a big way.

He's only been the head coach for two years, but last year's team regressed and won only two Southeastern Conference games.

"John is the reason last year's team was not better," said one Arkansas media member who did not want to be identified because he has to cover the Razorbacks. "That team was awful most of the time.

"I really worry that John is in over his head. He may have needed another few years to be ready for the SEC. He's had a pretty sheltered life until now and he's not handled a lot of things well. If Kentucky can fire a coach (Billy Gillispie) after two years, then John better realize he could be in trouble this year."

The media member cited several areas where Pelphrey has been a disappointment to him. They include lack of team discipline, being unprepared for press conferences, lack of accessibility and questionable coaching tactics. "John doesn't like criticism, either. He really takes it personally and you can't do that at this level," the media member said. "I've really been surprised by a lot of this since he played under Pitino and coached under Donovan. He's just not been the coach everyone thought he would be."
