However, he also knows UK's lack of depth at that position gave him a perfect opportunity to show he was ready to play. That's why he worked so hard over the summer not only to add weight, but also to increase his strength.
"It is a big opportunity for me. I tried to push myself this summer. I have to be able to rush the passer. I want to seize the opportunity and do the best I can," he said.
Only sophomore Chandler Burden has any Division I experience among UK's top four defensive end prospects as Wyndham and Collins Ukwu, one of his best friends at UK, were redshirted last year while DeQuin Evans is a junior college transfer.
"I don't think it is that big a deal. No, we don't have any experience, but I think we can still step in and do just as good of things. We are athletic and quick. We will be good to go," he said.
He credits last year's starters, Jeremy Jarmon and Ventrell Jenkins, for helping him learn how to play end.
"I learned so much from them. They are really good leaders. They would teach me how to do better in my technique, play fast and work hard daily. That's going to be a big help this year," Wyndham said. "I was upset when I found out about Jeremy not coming back (because of a NCAA suspension). He was such a good player and leader. But sometimes you have to move on from that stuff and now we have some new guys just waiting for a chance to show what we can do."
