"I am not going to lie. I have put back on some weight. Coach Brooks has been getting on me about it. Basically I have about two weeks to get it down to where it needs to be. I have work to do. But I think I have been practicing hard and playing better at the same time. I am not where I need to be but I will be there soon," he said. "My weight won't be a problem."
His weight has gone up since practice started. He says with classes "kicking in" and him not getting out of class until 8"30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, his eating habits have been less than perfect.
"But I will be fine," said UK's starting offensive guard. "I am real excited and ready to play after missing last season. I think the whole team is excited and I am excited to see what we are going to do together."
Johnson, a starter both as a sophomore and junior before redshirting last year for physical and academic reasons, says he has been thinking about how long it has been since he played.
"I am a little nervous. I have not been in front of the huge crowd and the noise and the stuff for a while. I haven't even got to play in front of my family for a while. I am ready to see what it will be like," he said.
"I think I had a good camp. It started out rough, but the things the coaches told me to work on I tried my hardest to work on them. That's what I think helped me out. It's up to the coaches. I am starting but it is not final and my spot could be taken after the first game. So will see what happens."
