While Rafael Little was a standout running back at Kentucky, there were always durability questions and not since Artose Pinner has Kentucky had an every down back. A player fitting that mold is Travaughn Brooks. Standing 5-foot-11, 210-pounds, Brooks already has a college body and good speed (4.55 forty) to match. "I have the power to go inside and the speed to go outside," Brooks said to Mike Bakas in the spring.
Brooks is also a standout off the field. "I'm a humble person. I stay out of trouble and I focus on my school work. I make good grades and try to be modest," he said.
Brooks has received interest from several schools but a few stand out for the Florida back. "I'm interested in Kentucky because they offered me first," he said. "Then there's Arkansas, Central Florida and Western Michigan," he finished.
So what is it about Kentucky that stands out? "I looked at the team and their website. They are a good team. They've won three straight bowl games. The coaches are good people. It seems like a good place that I can fit in."
Even with the good words about Kentucky, there is no decision pending at this time. "I'm waiting until after the season, definitely," he said. "I'm looking for a place where I can fit in and make god friends. Maybe live there after college," he finished.
As a junior Brooks was named second team All-State pick after running for 1,969 yards and 13 touchdowns. This season Brooks has 394 yards and five touchdowns through two games. Crystal River High (FL.) is 2-0 thus far.
