VAUGHT: Calipari's ideal recruiting class

After putting together the nation's No. 1 recruiting class last year, Kentucky coach John Calipari has had no time to rest this season. He's likely to lose Patrick Patterson, John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins to the NBA and three other players —Ramon Harris, Perry Stevenson and Mark Krebs —will run out of eligibility after this year. So who will Calipari land in his second Kentucky recruiting class?

After putting together the nation's No. 1 recruiting class last year, Kentucky coach John Calipari has had no time to rest this season. He's likely to lose Patrick Patterson, John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins to the NBA and three other players — Ramon Harris, Perry Stevenson and Mark Krebs — will run out of eligibility after the 2009-2010 season.

So who will Calipari land in his second Kentucky recruiting class?

Obviously, he's going to have Stacey Poole, a talented forward from Jacksonville. He's a four-star player with a wealth of talent and versatility.

Now the fun starts. Who else will be in the recruiting class? In a perfect world where Calipari and his staff would get their way, here's an educated guess based on various sources as to what that list might look like.

Brandon Knight, point guard.
The 6-3 Knight is a five-star player from Florida and possibly the John Wall of the 2010 recruiting class. He has an abundance of skills as well as an abundance of big-time scholarship offers. He visited UK the same weekend Poole did and left impressed. However, he did not commit and likely won't make a college choice until the spring when he can wait and see what kind of coach and player movement there might be after the season.

Tobias Harris, forward.
The 6-8, 210-pound Harris will make an official visit to Kentucky soon and that could go a long way in determining if he ventures from Dix Hills, N.Y., to Lexington. He has numerous offers, including Louisville, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Syracuse and Tennessee, and seems a perfect fit for Calipari's offense and defense. He could be the DeMarcus Cousins of this year's recruiting class for Calipari.

Adreian Payne, forward/center.
The 6-10 Dayton, Ohio, product was reportedly close to committing to Kentucky earlier this summer before deciding to wait. He's narrowed his college list to only a few teams and UK still seems positioned nicely to sign him in November. Calipari and his staff like everything about Payne and feel he has incredible potential in Calipari's system.

Terrence Jones, forward/center.
The 6-9 Portland, Ore., product is one of the more intriguing recruits on UK's wish list. He seemed to be leaning to say out west until recently. He is ranked No. 20 nationally by Scout.com and would be a huge jewel in Calipari's recruiting chest and possibly open up another area of the country to Kentucky.

Obviously, Kentucky is still involved with a lot of other players and some of those could end up being Cats next depending on who decides to commit when. But if Calipari and his staff had their way, Poole, Harris, Payne, Jones and Knight certainly would make for a nifty 2010 recruiting haul.
