"It was just where I was from. Nobody really came to scout down there. I didn't go to camps. I stayed home in the summer," he said. "I just worked hard every day. I played with the older guys a lot when I was little. I got beat on a lot when I was little. I really held my own skill-wise but they pushed me around just because they were bigger. I took it and got better.
"I think I do play big for my size. I guess it is something I know I have to do. My instincts are pretty good, too. I just play hard and let things come to me. I am physical now and take pride in that. To play defense, you have to be physical. I think I surprised guys this summer. John and DeMarcus are cool, but DeMarcus always knew I could play. He talked to John and John didn't know a lot of stuff about me until we got here."
Bledsoe averaged 20.3 points, 9.4 rebounds and 11.5 assists per game as a senior and helped lead Parker High School to a state runner-up finish. Yet he knows his game needs work.
"If I get frustrated I tend to play bad. I am hard on myself. I have always had that problem. I want to win," he said. "My outside shot is not the best in the world. It needs work. I can hit it, but not consistently. That's why I think the dribble-drive will suit me and let me do things I like to do."
"I was going there. It was just the offense here at Kentucky and my relationship with coach Cal that brought me here. It wasn't anything else," he said. "Now I hope I can make everybody better and show some leadership for this team. I will get on guys if they need it and it won't matter how old you are. I can be vocal if needed.
"I wish the season started tomorrow. The summer was kind of long. I want to play. We could be a great team. We need our team chemistry right and we will be fine. We know that is what we need. We have six new guys coming in and six old guys. We have to work together and we all want to win. We will all be happy if we win, and I think we can win because everybody on this team is good enough to have a chance to play pro ball. When you have that, you should win."
