Lamar Dawson already looks the part of a SEC football player at 6-foot-2 1/2, 230 pounds. Dawson also possesses good speed (4.6 forty) with that size. Most importantly, he holds an SEC offer.
Kentucky offered Dawson last month and he's also being recruited by several other programs from all over. "He gets cals from several places," said Larry French, head coach at Boyle County High. "He's been to Notre Dame on an unofficial visit. He's getting letters from USC, Cincinnati and Louisville. Sevral colleges have sent letters and been in contact," said French.
It's easy to understand why. Dawson is a quality football player who can play many positions. "I thnk he can play a couple positions," said French. "He can play linebacker or tight end in college. He's got great hands. He blocks well. Defensively he reads exceptionally well. He can get to the football," French finished.
French also saw room for improvement for Dawson. "Everybody needs to improve on speed. He's got the size strength and lateral movement to be a good football player.
"He's a strong individual. He moves really quickly to the football. He's got a knack for finding the ball. He's a good athlete. You put him on the field and he does something positive with the ball. If he's on defense he'll make the tackle or be around the tackle," said French.
Still only a junior, Dawson has plenty of time to come to a college decision. At this point there's no timetable for a choice. "He's a young man that just needs to sit down with his family and talk about where he would like to go and what he wants to do with his life," said French.
